Destruction of community buildings and infrastructure due to a natural disaster has serious consequences on a community and requires communities to rebuild and recover. Loss of critical community infrastructure, such as schools and age care facilities slows the grieving, healing and economic recovery process. Investment in mitigation and prevention for wildfire measures will not only save money on rebuild costs but the social impact as well.
The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Study ‘hazard mitigation saves an average of $4 for every $1 of investment.
Bushfire Mesh is a versatile product that’s available in different sizes to meet your protection needs. The product is easy to handle and install and therefore can be utilized in a variety of applications.
FEMA provides a ‘Wildfire Hazard Mitigation Handbook for Public Facilities’ that suggests certain mitigation measures for facilities based on the buildings possible requirments.
Similar applications are suggested by Australia’s, Victorian Building Authority for retrofitting Community Buildings. The Victorian Government has increased requirments on schools with strict mitigation policies for those in Bushfire-prone areas. Below shows the suggested Bushfire Mesh applications for both FEMA and the VBA.

Class A Fire Rated Building Material
Bushfire Mesh has been tested to UL 723 / ASTM E 84 Surface Burning Characteristics of Building Materials and meets a Class A fire rated building material classification.
Where Building Codes, Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), National Fire Protection Agency (NFPA) / Firewise, CAL FIRE and International Wildland Urban Interface Code (IWUIC) suggest mesh for an application, Bushfire Mesh satisfies these requirements.
In Australia, Bushfire Mesh has been independently tested by CSIRO (NIST equivalent) and meets the physical properties of the Australian Standards 3959, Construction of Buildings in Bushfire Prone Areas.
Defensible Space & Perimeter Ember Fence
Bushfire Mesh Perimeter Ember Fencing is attached to the external perimeter fence of a Class 9 building. The perimeter ember fence will allow the fence line to become the first line of defense for the defendable space. The perimeter ember fence will catch the fire front embers blown along the ground. Bushfire Mesh is tested and shown to create valuable time against a bushfire.
